Just who is Chas really?

I've been in the web development field since 2007. I am self taught and constantly teaching myself new things. I've been all over the spectrum as far as web developers go. I freelanced for the first 2 years, I've worked for a non-profit, I've worked on a contract basis, I've had a full-time agency job building sites for fortune 100 companies, I've gone the start-up route, you name it, I've tried it. With all these jobs I've taken away some very valuable skills which have made me the developer I am today. When I first started out I learned PHP instead of HTML, my passion was to get into some hardcore programming. That quickly turned out to have a steeper learning curve than I thought, which then transitioned me into front end. I was quickly getting more request for front end than I ever did with PHP.

Over time I started to learn more front-end and not focus on back-end so much. After teaching and perfecting HTML, CSS and began learning JavaScript and JQuery. After a while front-end web development wasn't enough so I started to look into building mobile applications. I think this was my true calling and I'm glad I made this decision later in my career. With Phonegap I am able to take all the skills I have in front-end development and combine them with my desire to do some actual programming through JavaScript. That then transitioned into creating some app ideas I had which started me down the path of a start up. I've had several start ups that have taken me places I never thought I'd be and introduced me to people I never thought I'd meet. unfortunately the projects weren't far enough to gain outside investments but desperately needed the capital. This taught me a lot about the start up world and dealing with VCs. After a few failed start-ups I now know exactly how to present myself in the best way possible to gain interest. One incubator ask a question I never thought of and have since place in all my pitch decks. That question was "What is your greatest life hack", and this could not be coding related.
